Founder

Cosmin Mahadev Singh, the founder of RYK Yoga Meditation Center, is certified by the Kundalini Research Institute and registered with the International Kundalini Yoga Teachers Association and the Yoga Alliance. He has enjoyed the privilege of working with over 10,000 individuals since 2014. Cosmin is also an accomplished Traditional Reiki Master trained in the United States and Europe.

Born in Romania – a country with a deep-rooted history in diversity and spirituality; Cosmin’s upbringing, enriched with a combination of old and new world teachings, set the foundation for an inner calling of growth and search for knowledge, which led him on his spiritual path.

Cosmin’s world experience gives him the ability to exercise true empathy and compassion. His universal teachings transcend cultural and demographic boundaries and can be understood and appreciated by everyone. His teachings parallel the proverb, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” Cosmin goes beyond feeding knowledge for a day. He provides you with the “know-how” to recognize and harness the necessary tools for skillful living. His approach uses innovative scientific research harmoniously integrated with the ancient teachings of Kundalini Yoga as taught by renowned global authority Yogi Bhajan.

History

The RYK Kundalini Yoga and Meditation Center was founded in 2014. Regarded as a spiritual oasis located in the Las Vegas desert, RYK was the first community center of its kind.

RYK offers traditional yoga and meditation classes while specializing in Kundalini Yoga. In addition to yoga and meditation classes, RYK offers sound healing gong baths, breathing classes, specialized workshops, and training. Since 2015, RYK has offered Kundalini Teacher Training to students that want to take their knowledge and experience to the next level. This ten-weekend program includes intensive training for meditation techniques, chakras, subtle anatomy, breathing exercises, and provides the essential tools to teach yoga as a holistic and sacred science.

RYK also offers yearly international retreats to Bali and India. Planning and scheduling are taken care of so everyone traveling with the group can focus on the transformational journey and completely immerse themselves into these spiritual cultures.

Voted one of the top three best rated yoga studios in Las Vegas, the studio is also highly regarded amongst the top ten meditation centers in the world. RYK holds the record for the largest Yoga and Meditation Festival in Las Vegas and has continued to spread the teachings of yoga to corporate America at prestigious events such as the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) and the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC).

RYK’s mission and training go significantly beyond the traditional yoga studio. The unique style and message promote community togetherness and allow RYK to give back to those in need. RYK and its students serve the larger community; volunteering by donating food, clothing, and yoga training to the area’s veterans, homeless, and those less fortunate. By participating in the Giving Back Community Spirit Program, students of RYK Yoga and Meditation can support, follow, and maintain RYK’s mission by transforming their teachings into practice across the entire Las Vegas Valley.

Statement of Need

The Need:

According to an American Psychological Association survey in 2020, considering the physical and emotional toll of increased stress, half of adults (49%) report their behavior has been negatively affected by stress. Most commonly, they report increased tension in their bodies (21%), “snapping” or getting angry very quickly (20%), unexpected mood swings (20%), or screaming or yelling at a loved one (17%).

The Solution:

Yoga

While modern media and advertising may have us think that yoga is all about physical poses, the entirety of yoga includes a wide range of contemplative and self-disciplinary practices, such as meditation, chanting, mantra, prayer, breath work, ritual, and even selfless action known a seva.

The word “yoga” comes from the root word “Yuj,” which means “to yoke” or “to bind.” Yoga is usually defined as union: union between the limited self (jiva) and the cosmic self (atman). The scientific research into yoga’s benefits is still preliminary, but much of the evidence so far supports what practitioners seem to have known for millennia: Yoga is incredibly beneficial to our overall well-being.

Physical benefits of yoga include:

  • increased flexibility
  • increased muscle strength and tone
  • improved respiration, energy, and vitality
  • maintaining a balanced metabolism
  • weight reduction
  • cardio and circulatory health
  • improved athletic performance
  • protection from injury

Kundalini yoga is even more spiritual than other types of yoga. Whereas other types of yoga flow with the breath, Kundalini yoga combines chanting, singing, movements, and breathing in specific patterns. The purpose is to promote spiritual enlightenment.

There are science-backed benefits of Kundalini yoga. According to research, it may help:

  • ease stress and anxiety
  • improve cognitive functioning
  • boost self-perception and self-appreciation

Spirituality

A yoga practice may improve various aspects of spiritual well-being and spiritual intelligence. Yoga practice may also be associated with increased levels of spiritual health, a more positive outlook on life, happiness within, and lower levels of existential anxieties.

Meditation

Meditation is used to develop mindfulness, promote calmness, and increase relaxation. As the latest meditation statistics show, more people are meditating on a regular basis. People are looking for new ways to relieve stress and anxiety, and retreats are an effective way to disconnect from daily routine and reconnect with the true self.

  • It’s estimated that 200–500 million people meditate worldwide.
  • Over 14% of Americans have meditated at least once.
  • Meditation improves anxiety levels 60% of the time.
  • Meditation can reduce the risk of being hospitalized for coronary disease by 87%.
  • Meditation can reduce the wake time of people with insomnia by 50%, according to mindfulness meditation stats.
  • 66% of US Buddhists meditate at least once a week.
  • Almost 10 times more children used meditation in 2017 than they did in 2012.
  • 52% of employers provided mindfulness classes or training to their employees in 2018.
  • Meditation can increase employees’ productivity by 120%.
  • School suspensions were reduced by 45% thanks to meditation.

RYK workshops are specifically designed to help relax, heal, and transform through asanas, pranayama, and meditation techniques.

Breathwork

Learning to breathe correctly may help strengthen the cardiovascular muscles and improve blood pressure. Regular deep breathing also decreases the chances of stroke and stimulates the vagus nerve which reduces the ‘fight or flight’ response. Regular breathing exercises can also improve focus and concentration.

The Program Plan

The RYK Retreat Center, located on fifty-two acres in North Carolina, provides ancient, powerful teachings within an eco-friendly, modern village, the perfect symbiosis between science and spirituality.

Phase 1: RYK Retreat Center will offer traditional teachings, training, and other programs to help individuals in their spiritual growth by providing an oasis to nurture healing, personal development, and spiritual immersion in self-discovery and enlightenment. Offerings will include weekend and long-term retreats and training.

Phase 2 This phase will include building individual cabins for lodging, a meditation hall, a community space, and a welcome center. This will require building twelve custom-made dwellings situated within the property’s natural settings. Different models and sizes will be available depending on the individual or a family’s need, creating the opportunity for residents to live part or full time with a community of like-minded souls.

The RYK Retreat Center provides living within nature, a superb mild climate, a growing spiritual family, and full access to the Yoga Center.

Phase 3: The Center will add an organic garden and an eatery in Phase 3, where customers can pick fresh produce, they would like to have cooked for their meal. The garden will be accessible to locals, tourists traveling in the area, and those attending training at the retreat center, and/or living in the residential development.

Studies suggest that community gardens provide numerous health benefits, including improved access to food, improved nutrition, increased physical activity, and improved mental health. Community gardens also promote social health and cohesion.

Adults who participate in a community garden consume more fruits and vegetables. 56% of community gardeners meet national recommendations to consume fruits and vegetables at least five times per day,

Community gardens lower the cost of produce, increase accessibility, and increase acceptance and taste perceptions of fruits and vegetables.

Gardening can contribute to feelings of peace and contentment. Focusing attention on the immediate tasks and details of gardening can reduce stress and anxiety.

Volunteer Opportunities

The growth and success of the RYK Spiritual Retreat and Training Center will be primarily due to the overwhelming response to those who have volunteered their time and talent. In addition, we acknowledge and appreciate each volunteer who dedicates and practices selfless service, known as “Seva.”

Seva is performed by offering time and talent that assists the center and grows the yoga community. The RYK Retreat Center asks volunteers that however they wish to perform, Seva is given purely and whole-heartedly as it is not a requirement. Performing this selfless service is a way for volunteers to express their areas of interest and ability. Volunteers wishing to perform Seva may contact the RYK Retreat Center to learn about volunteer opportunities.
